Dark, disturbing, chilling
As a piece of crime fiction, it is a seductive and suspenseful read, shaping fully rounded characters and a chilling series of revelations and twists. However, for me it was also the ability of French to describe, giving the novel a literary feel to it. Hugely enjoyable.
